POSITION PURPOSE

To work closely with ESL Lead Teacher and team members to offer supplemental lessons that facilitate second language acquisition. Offer supplemental assistance with content assignments as needed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree and knowledge of best practices for teaching English Language Learners Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with ESL Lead Teacher, ESL Team Members and Classroom teachers to provide English Language instruction and additional academic support to EL students. Effectively plan and implement language development lessons that enhance core instruction. Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with all stakeholders. Work with small groups of EL students or one-on-one to provide instruction in English Language Development Tutor a small group of students in a variety of Content Areas; utilizing scientifically research-based materials and lessons Review student data to become knowledgeable of student strengths and needs. Assist in developing students’ cognitive capacity, increasing academic skill development, and respect for learning; foster students’ self-esteem and motivation through positive interaction Monitor, document, evaluate, and provide updates on student needs and progress Page 1 of 2 Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and performance Observe and respond to student needs, emergencies, and/or conflicts that may occur Maintain a positive attitude in your work and interaction with staff, ESL team, and students ? Always treat students with kindness and respect; set a positive example for the students in the ESL program Maintain confidential information about children, families, and staff Exhibit and practice courtesy, respect, and professional judgment in dealings with all students, parents, supervisors, colleagues, school administration, staff, ESL Team, etc. Maintain open lines of communication with other program staff, school staff, and parents/guardians Participate in monthly ESL Professional Learning Community and necessary ESL test trainings Administer ESL Testing as required throughout the year (W-APT, WIDA Screener, ACCESS) Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor

Must be able to work in office and public school environments and come into direct contact with staff and students
