The Advanced Academic Success Tutor•MD works closely with supervising faculty and staff to support students in advanced medical school courses to become more confident and independent learners, be successful in their coursework, and reach their goals. Tutors provide individual and/or small group tutoring to students in a range of subject areas, which varies based on student need. Tutors meet with students to clarify and review curricular concepts, explain processes needed for academic success, and help students solve problems specific to their coursework and/or overall academic skills (e.g., writing, quantitative, time management). Required Qualifications

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of medical course content through satisfactory completion of course or equivalent course work or experience.
Previous experience teaching, assistant teaching, tutoring or leading small learning communities.

Consistently maintains a positive, patient, and encouraging attitude with students.
Ability to provide tactful oral and written feedback.

Work with Students
Create a professional and welcoming learning environment by respecting students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
Lead tutoring sessions and/or small group learning communities review sessions on challenging academic material.
Plan, prepare, and deliver session plans that facilitate active learning using evidence-based pedagogical methods.
Provide student assistance through tutoring and coaching using skills learned in previous work-related setting or course work.
Determine student needs and monitor progress through listening and questioning strategies as the primary method.
Coach students using feedback and reflection to improve students’ knowledge, understanding, and capable application of medical sciences in a way that takes advantage of the tutor’s medical knowledge, capabilities, and experience on a plane well beyond student learners.
Iteratively design practice problems and exercises matched to a student’s level of understanding and needs exhibited.
Demonstrate and provide guidance on conceptual approach, analytic strategies, and application frameworks to enable students to become confident, successful, self-directed learners.
Differentiate student support depending on knowledge and skill level using multiple learning modalities.
Available to commit to regularly scheduled 1-hour sessions weekly (or as needed) on evenings and/or weekends Other Duties
Document and collect program data on tutoring targets, activities, accomplishments and challenges.
Meet with the Geisel Office of Academic Advising (OAA) to integrate with systems of student support.
Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed in a manner integrated with OAA.
Participate in Geisel professional development and training activities to improve skills•Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.•Performs other duties as assigned.
