Job Title Nursing Tutor Specialist
Position Purpose This position provides academic support and resources to facilitate student’s success in reaching their goal of bing a nurse. The specialist will offer individual and small group appointments to assist students as they clarify, review, and learn concepts taught in their classes and clinical experiences. This position serves as a liaison between the nursing faculty, support staff, and the students.
Essential Duties Summary Provide day-to-day academic support to nursing students at NEC, including students with learning disabilities and students for whom English is an additional language.
Provide academic coaching in writing development, active learning (study techniques, test-taking strategies, time management andanization, and goal-setting processes), and nursing content tutoring.
Promote definable learning strategies which promote academic success and independent learning.
Meet individually and in small groups, in-person or virtually, to reinforce and assist students with understanding content taught in nursing courses.
Collaborate with advising staff/faculty to provide academic advising support.
students nursing concepts and think critically about course content and how it applies on exams, in the laboratory, and at clinical sites.
Work in conjunction with faculty to provide students with assistance/resources to aid them inpleting assignments and meeting course objectives.
Collaborate with other staff/faculty to design and deliver workshops, presentations, and specialized group tutoring.
Serve as the support service representative on the nursing student affairsmittee.
Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Assist with training and oversight of nursing peer tutors.
Aid in college-wide efforts to promote retention through student academic success and student engagement within the NECmunity.
Operate according to established systems, general policies, and procedures.
Promote and provide additional services as assigned by the Director of the WASC.
Required Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Experience
Kledge of subject matter in core and foundational nursing courses.
Tutoring or teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of learning strategies to support students’ various learning styles and diverse backgrounds.
Academic counseling/mentoring/coaching/training/advising.
Skills and Kledge
Strong math and science skills.
Strong reading, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
Excellentanizational skills, professional conduct, and reliability.
Kledge of learning strategies, study skills, and effective academic achievement strategies.
Excellent interpersonal andmunication skills.

Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree
