Job Description:

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at SUNY Maritime College is currently in need of two part-time tutors to work the nightly study halls during a mandatory five-week summer program for pre-freshman from July 19th – August 20th. The tutor will attend all study halls in full and assist students with their school work while they are enrolled in Introductory Math 80/90 and English 90 (Introduction to College English). The tutor will also collaborate with the English or Math Professor in order to stay current with the class materials and monitor the student’s progression in the class. Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Attend all study halls (12 hours per week) for EOP students from July 7, 2025 – August 6, 2025, 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday evenings Provide personal, academic and motivational support for students Act as role models throughout the entire summer program Monitor students to ensure they remain focused on their schoolwork Submit weekly reports to monitor what students are working on and what subjects they are struggling with that week Inform EOP of any concerns regarding a student by email, call or text on that same day

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree or higher degree Demonstrable academic writing skills Familiarity with MLA reference style of writing Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks Strong grasp of the standards of critical reading and writing in an academic setting Basic understanding of the collaborative one-on-one approach to tutoring writing Inter-personal qualities conducive to one-on-one and small group interactions with students of various backgrounds Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree or higher degree in Math, English and/or related field Experience teaching or tutoring

Classification/Salary Range:

The anticipated hourly rate for the position is $35.00 – $40.00 per hour. Review of applications will commence immediately and conclude when position is filled

FLSA non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime monies.
