Academic Coach – Academic Center for Excellence 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn, NY 14132 Position Information Position Category Part Time Staff Position Status 10 Month FLSA Non-Exempt Advertised Salary $21.86 – $24.04 per hour Department Academic Center for Excellence Working Hours Up to 28 hours per week General Description The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) at SUNY Niagara is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Academic Coach to support students in developing key academic strategies and habits. This position focuses on holistic academic development rather than subject-specific tutoring. The Academic Coach will work with students one-on-one and in small groups to foster success through improved study skills, time management, test taking strategies, organization, motivation, and stress management. This position serves both in-person and online students, offering flexible support to meet diverse learning needs. The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor’s degree or lower the rate of pay will be $21.86 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay will be $24.04 per hour. Scheduled hours can occur Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 6:00pm. Typical Work Activities Conduct one-on-one and group academic coaching sessions focused on time management, organization, study skills, academic motivation, and related topics. This includes supporting athletic study hours to help students maintain academic eligibility. Build positive, supportive relationships with students while modeling appropriate social interactions. Foster independence, responsibility, and self-advocacy through consistent mentoring. Meet regularly with students to assess progress toward academic goals, and provide direct instruction or skill development as needed (creation of personalized academic action plans). Refer students to relevant campus resources such as academic advising, counseling, or accessibility services. Assist students in navigating campus tools, systems, and learning supports. Facilitate academic workshops on topics such as time management, test preparation, and academic planning. May also deliver sessions in classrooms through the “Absent Professor Program” at faculty request. Maintain accurate records of student interactions, goals, progress, and outcomes in accordance with department procedures. Collaborate with ACE staff, peer tutors, and faculty to ensure coordinated support for student academic success. Attend and actively participate in scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions. Essential Functions Deliver individualized and structured academic support during designated ACE hours. Actively engage students in academic goal setting and progress monitoring. Identify academic challenges and intervene with appropriate strategies and tools. Provide a consistent, encouraging presence that builds student confidence and autonomy. Collaborate with the broader ACE team to ensure seamless support for students. Perform other duties as assigned that contribute to the effective operation of the Academic Center for Excellence.
