POSITION PURPOSE

Beaufort County School District seeks certified persons to serve as tutors. To provide intensive and extensive tutorial services for identified students to develop successful academic skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides academic assistance to assigned students, either in a group setting or one-on-one, as directed by the classroom teacher. Collaborates with the classroom teacher to assess selected students and develop effective methods of tutorial service delivery. Maintains records on each tutored student, including follow-up and periodic evaluation of progress. Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and helps them develop study skills necessary for academic success. Helps students develop a positive attitude, a high level of motivation and self-confidence in academic work, serves as a role model for students being served. Assists in designing and implementing cooperative group projects as needed. Attends periodic training sessions to enhance competency in tutoring.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a valid teaching certificate or proof of retirement from teaching.

EXPERIENCE

Prior tutorial experience preferred. Knowledge and understanding of children. Ability to work with others. Willingness to follow directions. Ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with Board Policy. Ability to accept individual differences among children. Good written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented.
