Position Summary:

Thrive Tutoring is seeking a skilled, engaging tutor to work one-on-one with a rising 9th-grade student at Battleground Academy, during the summer months . This student has been diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD and benefits significantly from kinesthetic, hands-on instruction and explicit modeling of concepts . This is an excellent opportunity for a tutor who is structured, creative, and student-centered to provide meaningful academic intervention and support.

Student Profile :

Diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD Demonstrates stronger cognitive focus in the morning to early afternoon Proficient reader but struggles with main idea identification and synthesis Enjoys writing but needs support with organization and clarity Benefits from scaffolded, step-by-step math instruction , especially when connected to topics of personal interest Struggled with academic regression during the

COVID-19

pandemic and has faced ongoing challenges with motivation and sustained engagement Responds best to structured lessons , hands-on activities, and practical examples Interests include aviation, theater, and singing – a tutor who can relate to or integrate these interests will be more effective (may benefit from a male tutor)

Availability Needed :

Between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM , multiple sessions per week preferred

Duties:

Design and lead individualized, engaging sessions that support reading comprehension, writing structure, math, and study skills Implement hands-on, kinesthetic teaching strategies Presents mathematical concepts in step-by-step, tangible ways Break concepts into manageable steps and explicitly model tasks Monitor student’s engagement and adjust instruction as needed to maintain attention and interest Support development of executive functioning skills such as time management, organization, and study habits Communicate clearly and regularly with the Thrive team and student’s family Incorporate student’s interests (aviation, theater) to enhance motivation and relevance of lessons Provide post-session notes and follow-up action items

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience working with students who have dyslexia and/or ADHD Structured literacy background strongly preferred A minimum of 2 years of teaching or tutoring experience Ability to deliver clear, consistent instruction with a structured approach Strong communication and organizational skills Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with neurodiverse learners Familiarity with supporting students through academic recovery and motivation challenges
