referees for the upcoming fall season. If you are in high school or older and want to earn some money while contributing to a positive, FUN, and fair atmosphere, we’d love to hear from. Referees play a key role in teaching and enforcing the spirit of our rules within our games, and we’d like you to be a part of that. Our fall season runs from mid-September to mid-November, and all of our games are played on Monday evenings at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex between 6pm and 9pm. Our season consists of 7 regular-season weeks, plus 2 end-of-season tournament weeks. Each of our games take approximately 50 minutes. As a reminder, this is a SEASONAL, once-a-week (Monday nights) job, not a part/full-time job. We consider this as a side gig for those who are looking to make some extra side money. Responsibilities Learn all three of our rulebooks (5v5, 6v6, and 7v7). Officiate our flag football games to ensure players are following the rules, playing in a safe manner, and having FUN. Communicate clearly with players, coaches, and spectators all throughout the game regarding calls, score, and timing during the game. Manage conflicts on your game field by addressing disputes calmly and fairly. Maintain a professional demeanor while fostering a positive atmosphere for our young athletes. Collaborate with coaches and league officials to ensure smooth game operations. Provide guidance and support to the players in order to enhance their understanding of the game (we care more about teaching the kids to do the right thing rather than strictly trying to enforce the rules, especially early in the season). About one month before the start of the season, we will hold mandatory Zoom meetings once a week to go over our rulebooks up until the start of the season. Expect to have 3-4 Zoom meetings. There will also be a mandatory in-person meeting sometime in between so that the commissioner can meet y’all in person and discuss what to expect in the season. Once the season starts, we will not hold meetings unless absolutely necessary. We will, however, hold a Zoom meeting a few days before the start of our post-season tournament to ensure we get a refresher on the rules before the start of the playoffs. Qualifications (required) Have good basic knowledge and understanding of the sport of football. In good physical health (already engaging in physical activity to keep up with health). (not cancel last-minute or very rarely being available for games). How We Pay You will be paid per game. Starting pay is $20 for head referee and $15 for 2nd/3rd referee. With the expectation that we will have three hours of games each Monday evening this upcoming season, you could get paid up to $60 each Monday evening refereeing for us. Once the commissioner finds that you are a consistently excellent and reliable referee within our system, a consideration to up your pay to $25 as head referee and $20 for 2nd/3rd referee could be made as soon as week four. This of course is at the discretion of the commissioner. About Our League America’s Flag Football is South Louisiana’s premier youth co-ed flag football league, with a focus on promoting the FUN of the sport. While we enjoy the competitive nature that comes with flag football, our mission is to create an enjoyable and FUN environment where players build confidence, learn new skills within the sport of football as a whole, and make lasting memories. We welcome players from PreK through 8th Grade, with divisions and rules tailored to each age group to ensure an appropriate and engaging experience for all. This includes different-sized footballs, different set of rules (guidelines), and different field sizes, all aimed to help the kids grow into the sport of football according to their respective grade and age level.
