What We Offer This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 3 – 25 hours per week. All games take place in the evening and on weekends. The pay rate for this position is $21.60/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. Part of the City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation, CityWide Sports offers a variety of adult sports programs across a large network of sports fields and recreation centers throughout the metro Denver area. With over 175 diverse leagues available, including coed, men’s, and women’s options for sports including softball, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and kickball, there’s something for everyone. Games are held on weekday evenings and weekends, providing a vibrant and flexible sports experience for participants. Non-Certified Sports Officials officiate CityWide Sports programs and aid recreation site leads and staff. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sports and eager to step into officiating without needing formal certification, making it an accessible entry point for those looking to develop their skills in a supportive environment. Games are held throughout Denver’s network of parks and recreation centers. As a Sports Official, you’ll play a vital role in creating a fun, fair, and dynamic atmosphere for participants. Here are some of the key duties you’ll take on: Officiating at sports events including flag football, basketball, softball, and other adult sports leagues Communicating with CityWide Sports Program Coordinators by telephone, e-mail, or in-person to provide information and discuss problems Inspecting playing surfaces or fields to ensure that they meet the regulations of the sanctioning body and are safe for the players. Inspecting sporting equipment and/or examining participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations Signaling participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play Explaining disputed calls to players (when appropriate) Performing other related duties as assigned or requested What You’ll Bring We’re looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, reliable, and passionate about sports. The ideal candidate thrives in a team environment, demonstrates strong communication and decision-making skills, and is committed to creating an enjoyable experience for all participants. Previous experience in sports, officiating, or recreation is a plus, but not required—we value a willingness to learn and a positive attitude above all. Our ideal candidate will also have the following: Availability during weeknights and weekends Punctuality and proactive communication ahead of all scheduled shifts Willingness to work multiple sites and regions Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
