As a member of the Special Area team, this educator collaborates with classroom teachers, counselors, and school leadership to promote a school-wide atmosphere of respect, empathy, responsibility, and integrity. This position supports student development through engaging, age-appropriate lessons aligned with school character initiatives and state standards for social-emotional learning.
Action Research:
As part of professional responsibilities faculty are expected to actively engage in action research to inform and improve instructional practices. This process involves identifying areas of instructional need, collecting, and analyzing data, implementing strategies based on findings, and reflecting on outcomes to enhance student learning. Participation in action research supports a atmosphere of continuous improvement and professional growth and contributes to evidence-based decision making at both the classroom and school-wide levels. Design and deliver weekly character education lessons to students in grades K-5, covering topics such as kindness, responsibility, respect, empathy, conflict resolution, perseverance, and digital citizenship. Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to reinforce character education themes across school settings. Use interactive and developmentally appropriate teaching strategies, including storytelling, role-playing, classroom discussions, and project-based learning. Integrate school-wide character mottos, core values, and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) goals into classroom instruction. Support a positive school climate by promoting student leadership, kindness campaigns, and service-learning opportunities. Monitor and assess student understanding and behavioral growth through observation and informal assessments. Communicate with families about character education topics and strategies for supporting values at home. Participate in school-wide events, assemblies, and parent nights related to social-emotional learning and student well-being. Maintain accurate records and adhere to all school and district policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. State of Florida Educator’s Certificate in Elementary Education or statement of eligibility and must maintain throughout employment. Experience teaching or facilitating social-emotional or character education programs. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. This is a collective bargaining in-unit 10-month faculty position. The anticipated start date is July/August 2025.
