03/17/2025 General Function The Electrical Instructor is responsible for providing quality skills instruction to our electrical students through seated and practical hands-on/lab courses. The Instructor is responsible for providing one-on-one and whole group instruction so that students are able to acquire the skills expected in the Electrical industry. This position will remain open until filled. Qualifications
High school diploma
North Carolina Electrical Contractor License is preferred for teaching Level I courses only; if teaching Level I and II courses a North Carolina Electrical Contractor License is required
Minimum of 3 years residential and/or commercial electricity work experience required Working Conditions
Classroom, lab, or shop environment
Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress
Some light lifting of materials pertaining to lab projects
Essential Functions and Responsibilities The duties of the Electrical Instructor – Continuing Education (Part-time) include, but are not limited to:
Mastery of Subject Matter
Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in residential and commercial electricity by maintaining all credentials required for the position
Connect their subject matter with all concepts related to electricity
Maintain current knowledge of the standards and regulations required to become a licensed electrical contractor
Learn to use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Stay current through the certifying organizations and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops
Teaching Performance
Develop and implement course instruction in ways that maximize student learning in the classroom and online course sessions
Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students Encourage the development of communications skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the internet, interactive technology when appropriate
Establish an understanding of the legal aspects of this skill and how city, state, and federal agencies dictate expected performance of the electrical technician
Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs Facilitate the appropriate handling of tools, gauges and equipment that are used to ensure a safe electrical systems installation is always performed
Develop supplemental materials and/or visual aide to enhance textbook learning
Develop instructional material in accordance with course objectives
Evaluation of Student Learning
Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
