Job Description:

The Department of Childhood Education and Literacy Education at SUNY Old Westbury is seeking an adjunct instructor with a strong background in Foundations of Education or a related field to teach an undergraduate course for prospective elementary pre-service teachers. Prior teaching experience at the elementary levels is required. The adjunct instructor will work closely with a full-time faculty in planning and delivering course content to students that is appropriate with course goals and key assessments. Fall 2025 semester dates: August 25 through December 17, 2025.

Course:

ED 3900- Foundations of Education This course offers an introduction to the teaching profession for prospective educators. Students examine the social, political, economic, and historical factors that shape the educational landscape and influence the work of professional educators. Key topics include child development, the school experience, teaching strategies, classroom management, curriculum design, and selected legal and ethical considerations in education. The course also serves as preparation for admission into the Teacher Education Program. Tuesday and Thursday 11:40 a.m. – 1:20 p.m.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field. Three (3) years teaching experience in elementary education with strong background in child development. Adept in socio-cultural issues in education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s, Ph.D. or Ed.

D. in elementary education or related field. Experience teaching courses in higher education. Experience teaching or mentoring an ethnically and culturally diverse student body.
