CLASS DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Principal the Physical Education teacher shall assist in carrying out his/her responsibilities and shall act as a consultant and physical education teaching specialist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shall act as a teaching specialist and he/she shall act as a consultant to the Principal and teachers in the improvement of physical education instruction when requested. Shall follow a regular schedule of physical education lessons with each classroom designated by regulation in every school assigned. Cooperate with the Principal of each school, and is to be directed and supervised by the Principal in the functioning aspects of establishing and carrying out the program in the school. Shall attend all meetings called by the Principal of the school wherein the physical education program in the school is involved.

Assist the Assistant Superintendent by:

Attending and cooperating in all meetings relative to the physical education program. Take an active part in the State Physical Education Educators’ Organization Attend Physical Education Conferences and/or Workshops designed by the Superintendent of Schools. Shall teach, develop, and emphasize concepts of health and safety as an integral part of the program. Shall follow the most recently approved teaching syllabus that has been developed by the department to guide him/her in meeting the physical education needs of all children. Expected to maintain within the scope of his/her program design an optimum and integrated use of facilities and equipment in the school gymnasium. Assist the Principal in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all physical education equipment in the gymnasium.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

He/she should be familiar with current trends in educational technology as well as knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices. Must have a clear understanding of blended and personalized learning theory, pedagogy, and practices as well as experience delivering professional development. Must have strong communication, documentation and organizational skills are a must, as is a willingness to learn and grow. Must perform duties professionally, thoroughly, in a timely manner, and with a respectful, friendly demeanor in both external and internal relationships. Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to a high-energy, fluid environment. Must have a growth mindset that leads professional belief system. Must have the ability to exercise sound judgement and request assistance when needed. Must take initiative to solve problems proactively and work independently on tasks. Must respond ethically, professionally and respectfully as needed to difficult situations. Must be able to manage time effectively and follow through on assigned tasks accurately. Maintain professional demeanor regardless of internal or external concerns. Must meet the requirements of the State Board of Regents for certification in his/her area of instruction

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree 3-5 years’ experience preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving skills Strong presentation and facilitation skills

The use of a step stool may be required to reach the top drawer of a filing cabinet as necessary. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision.
