Biomedical Engineer:
The incumbent performs as a Supervisory Biomedical Engineer for the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) program the Kansas City VAMC, a large, 1b complexity medical center. The Kansas City VAMC has 157 beds and 8 CBOCs serving more than 50,000 veterans. The facility is supported by $47million inventory of medical equipment. HTM Service oversees all medical equipment systems. Major duties include but not limited to: Apply advanced knowledge of principles, theories, concepts, and practices of biomedical engineering. Keep abreast of changes in technology and utilize the informion gained in the solution of biomedical engineering problems to meet operional needs of multiple facilities. Ability to directly support the most complex and specialized clinical technology including service, system administrion, training, and quality assurance for multiple facilities. Has responsibility supervising technical staff, including lower-level engineers, biomedical engineering technicians, and other staff typically found a university affilied tertiary care facility (complexity level 1,) with one or more subordine biomedical engineers. In this assignment, supervisory biomedical engineers the facility level will have notable ongoing responsibilities, supporting VISN biomedical engineering initiives, and/or notable ongoing responsibilities as assigned by the Healthcare Technology Management Program Office. Knowledge of the management of overall department resources, i.e., finances, space, equipment, supplies, and staffing the local level or the VISN level. Draft and/or make recommendions to policies and /or directives reled to healthcare technology management in scope of organizional objectives spanning from multiple facilities, VISN or nional. Sets priorities, responsibilities, meets multiple deadlines, analyze organizional problems, delege tasks, and develop and implement effective solutions. Supporting an equipment management program th meets current Joint Commission, FDA, CAP, CARF, NFPA, and VA requirements. Develop and implement solutions resulting in efficient operions and use da efficiently to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity. Leading and dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers, within and outside of biomedical engineering to include conflict management, dispute resolution, mediion, or reasonable accommodions. Assisting with capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment spanning initial concept, installion, and effective implemention of complex medical equipment. Functioning as a subject mter expert in the field of biomedical engineering who directly supports specialized clinical technology including service, system administrion, training, and quality assurance a medical center. Knowledge of basic project management principles, as applied to the healthcare setting and medical equipment, and informion system implemention.

To be creditable, the curriculum must be from a school of engineering with least one curriculum accredited by the Accredition Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), as a professional engineering curriculum. Examples of acceptable engineering degrees include: Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering. Titles may vary from educional institutions and change over time. OR, (2) Certificion as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) and a bachelor’s degree not listed above. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria).
