Job Description Under the limited supervision of the Clinical EngineeringSupervisor and/or Department Manager, performs highly skilledrepair and maintenance of complex electronic patientcare/monitoring and clinical engineering equipment, includinginstallations, project management, calibration, routine maintenanceof medical electronic equipment.

Principal Responsibilities andTasks Performs preventive maintenance, repair and calibrationservices on complex electronic patient care, clinical laboratory,computerized pneumatic conveying equipment and basic radiographicequipment in accordance with departmental standards andmanufacturers operating and repair manuals. Interprets and performs inspection procedures appropriately anddocuments procedures in accordance with Joint Commissionregulations and departmental policy and procedure. Identifiespotential safety hazards of equipment and documents actions takento eliminate them. Responds to work requests, troubleshoots malfunctions and makesthe necessary repairs in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

Installs, repairs and maintains complex diagnostic and therapeuticequipment including their electronic and mechanic components. Schedules third party repair of equipment when needs are beyondthe scope of the department’s expertise. Maintains test equipment and tools in good working order.

Communicates with nursing, allied health and medical staff,regularly, regarding equipment operation to prevent/minimizeequipment failure. Participates in the evaluation of new, rental or demonstrationbiomedical equipment and make recommendation regardingacquisition. Observes general clinical engineering practices and respectivedepartmental policies and procedure to promote the overallefficiency of repair service and operations for the BiomedicalEngineering Department. Assists management with oversight on maintenance ofdepartmental records, such as maintenance requests, electricalsafety forms, files, relevant statistics and technical manuals onbiomedical equipment in accordance with Joint Commission, federal,state and local regulations. Assists with education on use and operation of clinicalequipment. Responds to emergency codes as trained and assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience Associates Degree or Certificate in Biomedical EquipmentTechnology (or related field), or Military Biomedical TechnologyCourse (or equivalent technical program) required. Bachelor degree preferrd. 3 years of minimum experience required in the installation,testing, maintenance and repair of medical equipment in a hospitalsetting with 2years’ experience in maintenance of ventilators,anesthesia machines, and monitoring systems.

Knowledge, Skills andAbilities Highly effective verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills to communicate effectively with all levelshospital staff, patients, visitors, and levels of staff. Knowledge of applicable trade areas. Listening and organizational skills. Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft officeprograms. Results oriented, mature, self-developing, and haveintegrity. Be able to combine pieces of information to form general rulesor conclusions and have the ability to apply general rules tospecific problems to produce answers that make sense.
