Job Description A post-doctoral position is available immediately in the Computational Imaging Research Laboratory (CIRL) – http://cirl.memphis.edu – in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Memphis. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Chrysanthe Preza and her collaborators, a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, to pursue research in the exciting area of computational imaging for microscopy. Dr. Preza’s work has been funded in part by the NSF and the University of Memphis. The post-doctoral researcher will be expected to oversee graduate students and projects in the CIRL, prepare data and write reports/articles for technical publications as well as have the opportunity to participate in future grant proposal development as part of the post doc mentoring plan. Minimum Position Qualifications Minimum Position Qualifications The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Optical or Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Experience in building open set-up microscope systems on an optical table and integrating novel optics to microscopy are a requirement for this position. Knowledge in computational imaging, mathematical modeling, strong computer programming skills in MATLAB and/or other programming language, and fluent verbal and written communication skills in English are also required. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Special Conditions Preferred Qualifications Good experience and background knowledge in the research focus areas: e.g. development of advanced microscope systems, use of microscopes, data acquisition, inverse problems in imaging, optimization methods and image estimation and in particular knowledge in methods for super resolution structured illumination microscopy. Ability to work independently and in a team. Capability to design and perform experimental plans, knowledge with microscope data-acquisition or strong interest to learn, understanding of statistical analysis procedures and interpreting data. Sufficient interpersonal skills in dealing with students (graduate and undergraduate), university personnel and other related groups. Self-motivation and creativity are highly desirable. Special Conditions Initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for an additional year, based on performance and availability of funding.
