Generation Development Engineer/Analyst – Asset Implementation This position will be primarily located at APC Headquarters in Birmingham, AL.
POSITION SUMMARY
Generation Development is primarily responsible for assisting Southern Company’s retail operating companies with the siting, development, deployment and acquisition of power generation and energy storage resources. This position will support the project team associated with the deployment of new generation resources through commercial operation.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Asset Implementation project manager on all aspects of project implementation including: Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation Project budget forecasting and actuals reporting Contract Management Engineering design review Construction monitoring Performance of economic evaluations and profitability analysis using spreadsheets, production simulation software and financial models Preparation and presentation of project status and results to all levels of enterprise-wide management and peer groups Supporting the electrical interconnection process integrating new generation resources into the Southern Company transmission system Support development and implementation of appropriate solutions addressing project challenges through identification and response to all circumstances that affect the revenue requirements of the project. These effects include changes to the project’s performance, cost or schedule encompassing the timeframe from project award through some defined period post commercial operation Support Generation Development project teams with the following: Support continues improvement by documenting and sharing lessons learned / best practices from project implementation real-time experiences Serving on project teams performing detailed siting studies and development activities for new thermal generating units at existing plant sites and greenfield locations from initial identification of need through regulatory certification Negotiation, development, and/or management of large contracts with major equipment manufacturers and third-party engineering firms Coordinating inputs from diverse business units and functions across the enterprise to drive complex development projects toward goals
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering, applied science, mathematics, accounting, economics or finance required Advanced degree is desirable Experience in one or more of the following areas: capital projects, financial analysis, generation, environmental assessment, production cost modeling, contract development, negotiation and contract management/administration is highly desired Skills, Abilities and Experience Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills Experienced in the development and tracking of budgets and/or financial reporting Proven written and oral communication skills presenting complex information Knowledge and experience in the development, implementation and operation of power generation and/or storage technologies highly desired Understanding of electrical interconnection process high desired Experience in construction and/or contract management highly desired Proficiency with standard analytical and business software such as Microsoft Office applications is required Exhibits high proficiency in the development and delivery of information using PowerPoint and other visual messaging software
