Process Controls Engineer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Process Controls Engineer to update, create, and maintain process control systems. The successful candidate will troubleshoot hardware, software, and instrument problems and implement strategies to improve process safety and efficiency. You will provide essential engineering support during start-ups, shutdowns, and assist with unit troubleshooting. Responsibilities + Design, develop, install, commission, update, and maintain regulatory process control systems. + Design, maintain, and implement operator HMI while adhering to standards. + Maintain and update plant data historians. + Provide Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Input/Output (I/O) assignments to I&E Engineers and Digital System Specialists. + Support Operator Training Simulators (OTS), ensuring DCS changes are incorporated into the simulator. + Collaborate with process engineers to enhance plant asset safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. + Ensure control system modernizations are smoothly integrated onto the DCS. + Support personnel, including the person and OTS. + Develop business cases for regulatory control, advanced control, optimization, and simulation technology applications. + Generate ideas for process and process control enhancements. + Serve as Alarm Class Owner for Critical Fault Alarms and participate in Alarm Rationalizations Sessions. + Develop and implement alarm suppression and alarm state handlers. + Design, implement, document, and maintain process safety-critical BPCS control functions. + Provide input for the development of process control design standards. + Determine costs and perform cost/benefit analysis for DCS modifications with project engineers. + Perform detailed process control system design. + Update documentation and provide necessary training promptly. + Perform extensive project engineering functions for DCS modifications and advanced control projects. + Participate in HAZOP studies and process safety reviews for control modifications. + Assist with updating operating procedures. + Provide input to instrument and equipment selections with I&E engineers. + Offer technical assistance during startups and shutdowns. + Perform special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned. Essential Skills + BS degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering. + 2+ years of manufacturing experience in the chemical or refinery industry. + Experience programming Distributed Control Systems, specifically Honeywell Systems or Delta V. + Familiarity with PLCs, especially AB and Triconex. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with programming in R/Python, machine learning, data visualization, and big data processing. + Advanced PC skills. + Advanced knowledge of distributed control systems and applications software. + Advanced programming skills. + Advanced knowledge of loop tuning principles and procedures. + Basic knowledge of PLC programming and maintenance. + Effective organizational, oral, and written communication skills. + Strong interpersonal skills. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $85000.00 – $130000.00/yr.
