About the role Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiringnew team members who believe in the potential of engineered cellsas medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead withthe desire to work on novel ideas. As a Senior Process Engineer,you will report to the Sr. Director of Cell Therapy ProcessDevelopment and drive the development of a novel allogeneicchimeric antigen receptor T (CAR T) cell manufacturing process. TheSr. Process Engineer will serve as the process subject matterexpert, lead development, and coordinate the integration ofmultiple unit operations including cell isolation and expansion,gene editing, lentiviral transduction, and cryopreservation. Thecandidate will lead a multidisciplinary group of up to 2 engineersand research associates to execute the development plan and supportmanufacturing campaigns. This role will collaborate closely withmultiple cross-functional teams including Analytical Development,Research, Supply Chain and External Manufacturing to coordinatecritical deliverables. The individual will also maintain a focus oninnovation and process improvements to develop next generationallogeneic T cell manufacturing processes. What you’ll do Serve asprocess SME for an allogeneic CAR T cell program. Define processdevelopment strategy in close collaboration with the CMC andProcess Leads. Lead the execution of the allogeneic CAR T celltherapy process development plan. Mentor, train, and motivate agroup of engineers and research associates to plan, execute andanalyze experiments. Provide expert technical opinions to justifyprocess development decisions. Draft, review, and approve technicaldocumentation including reports, process descriptions, SOPs, andMBRs. Support internal and external process transfers. Drafttechnical sections to support regulatory filings. Evaluate newbioprocess technologies and implement process advancements forintroduction into a GMP manufacturing environment Engage in crucialconversations by providing and receiving feedback supporting thegrowth and development of team members Demonstrate the ability toengage and effectively influence team members acrossmultidisciplinary teams while prioritizing multiple projects andmeeting deadlines Drive curiosity, scientific rigor, and excellentproblem-solving skills across a fast-paced performance drivenenvironment Innate ability to assess talent that will help grow theorganization and add to Sana’s culture What we’re looking for PhD.in Chemical, Biological or Biomedical Engineering plus 2 years ofindustry experience or equivalent. BA and/or MS plus 7 yrs orequivalent combination of education and work experience. >2 yearof progressive experience in cell therapy process development,preferably with clinical and commercial stage T cell therapyprocesses with focus on cell culture. Proven ability to lead a teamof junior engineers and research associates. Experience designingand scaling key cell therapy unit operations, especially T cellcultures within bioreactors. Strong track record of applyingfundamental engineering and scientific principles to processdesign, modeling, and characterization. Well versed with cGMPrequirements and working in a regulated environment. Advancedknowledge of immunology including T cell biology. Working knowledgeof statistical design of experiments (DoE). Excellent technicalwritten and oral communication skills. Effective collaborator withan agile mindset to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-site,team-oriented organization. Prior experience managing ?1 directreport. Aptitude for working in a self-driven,performance/results-oriented, fast-paced matrix environment Whatwill separate you from the crowd Experience with T cell isolation,lentiviral transduction, gene editing, cell harvest andcryopreservation unit operations design and scaling. Well versedwith current cell therapy manufacturing platforms. Experienceselecting raw materials and equipment suitable for cell therapyprocesses. Familiarity applying PAT to cell therapy. Proficientwith relevant analytical methods including flow cytometry andcell-based assays. Knowledge designing high throughput T cellculture scale down models. Familiar with R, Python, JMP and FlowJosoftware. Demonstrate intense technical curiosity and a continuousdrive to learn new skills What you should know The base pay rangefor this position at commencement of employment is expected to bebetween $140,000

  • $160,000 annually; however, base pay offered mayvary depending on multiple individualized factors, including marketlocation, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
