Summary We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our innovative team at Befesa Zinc US. In this role, you will play a vital part in enhancing our recycling processes and driving efficiency within our operations. Your expertise will help us continue our mission of promoting sustainability and advancing the circular economy.

Process Engineer:

Responsible for working in a safe manner and reports to the Plant Manager. The Process Engineer is to perform technical and non-technical work requiring originality, judgment, and technical expertise. Responds to operating, quality control, maintenance, and environmental problems of technical nature. Responsible for overall coordination of technical projects, both short and long term, from conceptualization through start-up and operation. Position requires limited supervision and involves direct interface with personnel at all departments at the Barnwell plant. The typical schedule for this position consists of an 8 hour, 1st shift 7:00AM to 4:00AM, Monday through Friday. Note all BEFESA plants operate 24/7/365 and the needs of the plant will occasionally require working non-routine hours.

Job Duties:
  • Identifies opportunities for overall process improvements.. Arrives at functional solutions to operating, maintenance, and environmental problems.
  • Solve non-routine technical problems
  • Provide technical consultation to operating personnel in establishing or revising operating and maintenance procedures..
  • Develop specialized or non-routine procedures
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, execution and/or coordination of technical, maintenance, or construction projects which vary in scope and complexity
  • Interpret test and operating data and make appropriate, timely recommendations
  • Gather and present information on cost saving/economic aspects of projects
  • Participate in new process development
  • Monitor quality control and environmental compliance
  • Interact with contacts outside the Company such as vendors, customers, trade, and professional organizations
  • Initiate reports/memos as required or appropriate.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend potential process modifications to effect cost savings or quality improvements
  • Computer literate with word processing and spreadsheet,
  • Write operating procedures for new or modified processes
  • Reinforce company safety rules and programs, with a particular focus on
Process Safety Management Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering is required
  • Previous experience in industrial environments is preferred. Previous mining, metals, power plant, or recycling experience is a big plus.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently move up to 50 pounds.
  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, respirators, protective clothing, gloves, and Safety Harness.
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must be willing to accept accountability and work well within a team.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure and perform duties under stressful situations.
  • Ability to understand and convey verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
  • Basic math and mechanical skills.
  • Must maintain a clean and safe work area.
