Job Description
The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of automated process control systems to enhance manufacturing efficiency, safety, and product quality. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize control systems, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across production lines and utilities.
Key Responsibilities:
(Responsibility% of Time) 1. Control Systems Design & Implementation Design and configure control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and Keyance Vision systems to support production and facility operations. Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to integrate new equipment and automation projects. 30% 2. Troubleshooting and Support Provide advanced technical support to production and maintenance teams to resolve issues with process instrumentation, automation hardware/software, and communication networks. 20% 3. Continuous Improvement Lead and participate in improvement projects that enhance process performance, energy efficiency, safety, and system reliability. Utilize Lean and Six Sigma tools where appropriate. 20% 4. Documentation and Compliance Maintain detailed documentation including electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, and programming logic. Ensure systems comply with internal quality standards, FDA regulations, and OSHA requirements. 15% 5. Training and Knowledge Transfer Train maintenance, engineering, and production personnel on new or modified systems. Act as a subject matter expert in automation and controls technologies. 10% 6. Vendor and Project Coordination Coordinate with outside contractors, automation integrators, and equipment suppliers for the successful execution of controls-related projects. 5%
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related field required. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in process control/automation within a manufacturing environment (cosmetic, food, pharma preferred). Proficient with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI development, and KEYANCE systems. Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and process data acquisition. Strong knowledge of control theory, industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profibus), and safety systems. Understanding of GMP, FDA, and OSHA regulations is a plus. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
