Job Description
As a Propulsion Systems Structural Analyst, your will provide insight in the development, test, and certification of propulsion systems for NASAs liquid engine rocket fleet. You will become part of a multi-discipline team with the charter to establish flight rationale for Americas next generation of manned launch vehicles.
Primary job duties include engaging with engineering and product development teams to provide structural and dynamic insight in propulsion systems, as well as producing independent analytical assessments. You will also provide technical oversight in the design and evaluation of liquid rocket engine elements with particular emphasis on structural/dynamic response of turbomachinery components, as well as processing and interpretation of test data, and utilization of simulation software. In addition, you will develop and deliver reports and presentations, as well as collaborate with vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of integrated flight hardware and related test equipment.
Job Requirements:
A BS degree (MS preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related field with an emphasis on structural/dynamic analysis is required. A degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 14 years of experience; MS with at least 18 years of experience, or a BS with at least 20 years of experience.
Required Skills:
A minimum of 20 years of experience in the application of finite element methods, empirical closed-form structural/dynamic analysis techniques, and the assessment of failure mechanisms.
Familiarity with the finite element code, ANSYS.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in the use of a computer-aided design software package such as
CREO, NX
CAD, or SolidWorks is desirable.
