We are seeking a Stress and Dynamics Analyst to support the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) — a pivotal component in the first-ever effort to return Martian rock and atmospheric samples to Earth. Program:

The MAV is a two-stage, solid-propellant launch vehicle designed to carry Mars surface samples into Martian orbit for capture by the European Space Agency’s Earth Return Orbiter. Developed by Lockheed Martin and managed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the MAV is a linchpin in humanity’s most ambitious robotic retrieval mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform dynamic flex body analysis on metallic and composite structures of the MAV. Independently develop flex body models from complex vehicle structure CAD data. Conduct high-fidelity Wave 6 dynamic analysis to evaluate and optimize structural behavior under mission conditions. Provide design recommendations based on analysis insights to enhance performance and mission success. Support the design team in technical reviews (TTRs, PDRs), document deliverables (DRDs), and Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings. Assist in the development and delivery of engineering artifacts aligned with contractual milestones and program objectives.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Demonstrated experience in Wave 6 dynamic analysis and modeling. Proficiency in flex body dynamics, FEM tools, and structural analysis methodologies.

Desired Skills:

5+ years of experience in building dynamic FEMs using Wave 6. Experience with launch vehicle structures and/or aerospace composite systems. Strong understanding of vibration, stress, and modal analysis within complex aerospace systems. Effective communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional design teams. Why Join Us?
