DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this critical position, you will offer mining engineering expertise primarily to the Mine Subsidence Section at the California District Office. Your duties will involve conducting substrata assessments for the construction or renovation of public schools, adhering to the Public School Code of 1949 (Act 17). This includes inspecting adjacent structures and properties for signs of past mining activities and subsidence damage. You will also evaluate reports from consultants, architects, and governmental agencies concerning surface and subsurface conditions, as well as previous mine stabilization efforts. Collaboration with consultants, architects, and school officials will be essential to identify and address challenges related to proposed school projects in areas prone to mine subsidence. Furthermore, you will provide guidance on the design of subsurface exploratory and mine stabilization projects, reviewing final plans for these initiatives. Your role will also require the preparation of maps, sketches, and reports that outline investigative findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework:

 You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Coal Center.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline

Special Requirements:

This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
