Crew Leader

I – LITTER GRANT

(Roads, Bridges, & Engineering) 3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 6449 Haley Road, Memphis, TN 38134 All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department. Position Summary This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. Works under general direction to supervise a group of unskilled and semi-skilled employees and assists in the completion of semi-skilled work activities at Roads and Bridges.

Pay Grade:

43 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications 1. Four (4) years of construction experience of which two (2) years must be in a supervisory or lead capacity; AND 2. Tenth (10) grade education;

AND 3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Schedules daily roadside litter removal, solid waste collection, and disposal for areas within Shelby County. 2. Supervises and coordinates the activities of a work crew or inmate work lines. 3. Performs inspections of the work assigned to unskilled or semi-skilled employees. 4. Participates as required in the clean-up of illegal dump sites. 5. Prepares and submits daily work activity reports. 6. Operates trucks and equipment in a safe and responsible manner. 7. Participates in various recycling events and needed functions. 8. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSAs 1. Knowledge of Shelby County’s Road system. 2. Knowledge of activities and projects carried out by the Shelby County Litter Program. 3. Knowledge of equipment limitations and necessary preventive maintenance actions. 4. Ability to lead and work with teams. 5. Ability to deal with the public using courtesy and tact. 6. Ability to maintain communication written and verbal. 7. Knowledge of safe operating procedures. 8. Ability to identify when safe operating procedures require improvements or corrective actions pertaining to personnel and equipment. Physical Requirements Must be in good physical condition: stooping, bending, lifting, and able to work in inclement weather is required. Special Requirements 1. Must pass a physical examination. 2.
