Description Normal Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Additional hours, including weekends and holidays may be required.

POSITION SUMMARY

A skilled technical position responsible for providing specialized assistance related to engineering design and inspection services in the civil site development of new and rehabilitated infrastructure including but not limited to roadways, storm water facilities, sidewalks, etc. Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Engineering Manager. Example Of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity. Inspect construction for conformance with plans, permits and specifications. Makes and records field measurements including horizontal locations and vertical elevations. Makes field calculations and determines plan of field procedures. Investigate and report citizen’s requests and/or complaints. Calculate quantities and cost estimates for various projects. Interpret City codes and specifications. Inspect DRC projects and assist contractors. Conduct traffic studies as directed by the City Engineering Manager. Performs such other duties as may be directed by the City Engineering Manager Meet with Contractors. Assist in updating drainage and other maps. Utilize a PC, tablet, mobile phone or other electronic device to gather, process, review, modify, and submit information. Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Knowledge of basic engineering principles. Knowledge of civil engineering terminology and techniques. Knowledge of various phases of the plans review and inspections processes. Knowledge of basic surveying techniques. Skill in the use of basic surveying tools and equipment. Able to communicate orally with other employees, plan holders, and the public by telephone and in a one-to-one, face-to-face setting. Able to perform simple engineering computations, including basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, rapidly and accurately. Able to read and comprehend simple specifications, plans, and shop drawings. Able to interpret and make decisions in conformance with established policies and practices. Able to enter and retrieve data and information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device. Able to measure distance and elevation using calibrated instruments. Able to read and follow legal descriptions such as metes and bounds. Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Able to learn job related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting. Able to work cooperatively with other employees, the general public, and related organizations. Able to produce written documents using proper English, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in technology and computer including Adobe pdf, and Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Two years of experience in surveying/engineering related field. Any combination of education and experience which provides the requisite mental and communication skills. Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. . Must have Florida DEP Stormwater Management Inspector Certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities in the department, but has some responsibility over the contractor during the inspection of projects
