JOB SUMMARY

Jefferson County is seeking Electronics Technicians to be primarily responsible for maintaining multiple county facility security and wastewater treatment plant networking and process control systems (e.g., Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, video surveillance equipment, gas detectors, electro-mechanical door locking mechanisms, magnetic flow meter devices). They install and program these systems in accordance with applicable local and federal standards. Individuals in this job class are also required to perform preventative maintenance on existing systems to ensure proper functioning and minimizing outside vendor maintenance. They work under the general direction of a supervisor and are usually self-reviewed through the testing of equipment for proper performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position: Driver’s license. Full-time work experience installing, repairing, and maintaining digital and analog instrumentation. Full-time work experience installing, repairing, and maintaining at least one of the following areas: (a) industrial automation systems (b) fire alarm, nurse call, security, or card access systems (c) programmable logic controllers, computer-based instrumentation, and local area network technologies (LAN). Experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by Jefferson County when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes. Certificate of completion from an accredited electronics training program. Experience troubleshooting, repairing, downloading programs, and making adjustments to industrial automation control systems and programmable logic controllers. Experience with coordination amongst mechanical industrial maintenance, industrial electricians, and management teams to accomplish complex tasks using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as City works or Info to maintain a robust asset management program. Extensive experience working in the water industry, controlling processes to achieve compliance with state and federal laws and protection of public health.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES

Repairs and maintains server for the computerized SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system at wastewater treatment plant facilities in order to ensure continuous operation of plant systems/equipment. Performs as the Project Manager for various contracted updates, new or expanded services or functions. Maintains multiple county facility security or wastewater treatment plant networking and process control systems (e.g., Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, video surveillance equipment, gas detectors, electro-mechanical door locking mechanisms, magnetic flow meter devices) by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, programming, performing preventative maintenance, testing, tracking inventory, and making upgrades when needed to meet local, state, and federal compliance standards and to ensure proper working order of the equipment. Obtains information on compatibility, cost, installation procedures, and testing of systems when upgrading or retrofitting new components into existing systems by consulting with engineering firms, manufacturers, contractors, etc., studying technical manuals, interpreting schematics, attending seminars/conferences, and/or utilizing the Internet. Performs annual, monthly, and quarterly preventative maintenance by checking, and calibrating various pieces of equipment (e.g., dissolved oxygen analyzers, hazardous gas detectors x-ray machines, metal detectors, and flow meters) to ensure proper operations and to comply with local, state, and federal laws. Interprets shop drawings and electronics circuit schematics for the purpose of cost inquiries, to troubleshoot, and to find the location of defective items.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job involves light to moderate physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or twisting. Job may also involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Involves completing visually inspecting small components including electrical wiring that may require distinguishing between various colors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted both indoors in office setting as well as regular field visits to external places of business or construction worksites. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Work involves use of various hand tools such as hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
