Job Purpose:
Are you fascinated by how things work? Do you enjoy tinkering with electronics, solving puzzles, and seeing your creations come to life? As an Entry-Level FX & Software Technician, you will play a hands-on role in bringing the magic of our escape rooms to fruition. You’ll gain valuable experience assisting our skilled team in installing low-voltage electronic systems, assembling interactive props, and learn how to program and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) in an immersive entertainment environment. Responsibilities:
Assist in the assembly, wiring, and installation of low-voltage electronic components and circuits for escape room puzzles and effects. Learn to interpret wiring diagrams and technical instructions to connect sensors, actuators, and control modules accurately. Support senior technicians in the programming, configuration, and testing of PLCs and microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi) that drive puzzle sequences. Perform basic wiring and crimping tasks with a focus on precision and quality. Under guidance, assist in diagnosing and resolving fundamental technical issues with low-voltage systems and electronic puzzle elements. Contribute to the organization and maintenance of the FX department’s tools, equipment, and electronic component inventory. Collaborate with team members, asking questions and offering support to ensure project requirements are met. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to established safety protocols and using required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Be proactive in your daily tasks and remain flexible for various projects, understanding that teamwork and adaptability are key to our success.
Preferred Experience & Abilities:
We’re looking for enthusiastic learners with a strong aptitude for technology and problem-solving. While specific professional experience is a bonus, a genuine interest and willingness to learn are what truly matter! A demonstrated interest in electronics, robotics, automation, or similar technical fields through coursework, hobbies, or personal projects. Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux) Basic understanding of electrical principles and safety, particularly concerning low voltage (e.g., experience with 5V, 12V, DC systems). Some hands-on experience with tools used for wiring, soldering, and component assembly is a plus. Familiarity with microcontrollers (such as Arduino) and Programmable Logic Controllers, or basic programming concepts, is advantageous but not required. A keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving. Strong communication skills and a desire to learn from experienced technicians. Ability to read and follow technical instructions or diagrams. Physical strength to lift objects weighing between 35-50 lbs, as needed. Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing job-related duties, as needed.
