POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical/Controls Engineering Technician supports the design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical and automated control systems used in manufacturing processes. This role works closely with engineers, maintenance, and production teams to ensure systems are reliable, efficient, and compliant with safety standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TASKS
Locates and determines electrical malfunctions Assist in the design, installation, and modification of electrical panels and control systems Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Install, troubleshoot, and repair control devices such as sensors, relays, switches, PLCs, and HMIs Support PLC programming and HMI interface development (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems Assist in commissioning new equipment and conducting validation tests Maintain accurate documentation of wiring changes, control logic updates, and schematics Collaborate with engineers to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring electrical/control issues
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in electrical systems preferred. Proven experience as an electrician or electrical technician in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, controls, and instrumentation. Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. Experience with troubleshooting and repair of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and other industrial control systems preferred. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong commitment to safety practices and protocols. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
QUALIFICATIONS
2 or 4 year degree preferred in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, may consider education in lieu of experience Hands-on experience with industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and automation components Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as needed for project work or emergencies
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficiency in reading and modifying electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Familiarity with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) Experience with HMI and SCADA systems (a plus) Strong troubleshooting skills using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment Understanding of NFPA 70E, NEC, and general industrial safety practices This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
