JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Fiber Characterization Technician to join our field team. This full-time travel position involves working on high-level fiber testing and characterization projects across the country. You will play a critical role in ensuring fiber optic networks meet the highest standards for performance and reliability. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform fiber characterization testing , including OTDR, CD, PMD, and Insertion Loss measurements. Install, maintain, and test fiber optic cables, connectors, and associated equipment in the field. Conduct end-to-end link evaluations and provide documentation and analysis reports. Work closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to coordinate project schedules and deliverables. Maintain and track test equipment and ensure calibration and care of all tools. Identify and troubleshoot fiber issues; escalate problems when necessary. Comply with all industry safety protocols, customer requirements, and quality standards. Maintain accurate daily logs, test results, and project documentation.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. 2+ years of experience in fiber optic testing, characterization, or network field services. Strong knowledge of OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and other fiber testing tools. Experience with fiber types, splicing, and network topologies (DWDM, CWDM, etc.) is a plus. Comfortable with extended travel nationwide (up to 4 weeks at a time) . Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team environment.
