GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB DUTIES

The Electronics Technician II performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on electronic systems on transit vehicles. This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Removes, installs and repairs electronic fare collection equipment, destination signs, vehicle camera, AVL, Fuel Management, Radio systems and other electronic equipment as required or assigned. Performs preventive maintenance on the following systems: Annunciation systems, covert alarm, ADA electrical equipment, automatic passenger counter, farebox, touchpass, video camera, digital destination signs, wi-fi, fuel management, and radio systems. Updates and configures electronic head signs, GPS annunciation, router, vehicle camera systems, and related software. Utilize test equipment and computer software for installing, servicing and pre-testing electronic equipment. Proficient at reading and interpreting electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, flow charts and maintenance manuals. Proficient with using digital multi-meters, induction type meters and test lights to perform extensive repairs on all electrical equipment. Skilled at soldering electronic components. Familiar with use of vehicle multiplexing systems to diagnose electrical system failures. Train and assist with major electrical repairs on transit vehicles. Must be capable of using the Trapeze Asset Management System. Responsible for maintaining all work areas in a safe and clean condition. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Three years proven experience in the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment, related circuitry-testing skills, and strong analytical and diagnostic skills are requirements. Must have a good driving record and be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License with a passenger endorsement. The candidate must be able to meet the Department of Transportation physical requirements and maintain a DOT medical card. Candidate must have their own tools and be proficient in the use of mechanic tools and various shop equipment. Prior bus maintenance experience is preferred. Good communication skills and ability to work well with staff and the outside maintenance providers is necessary. The ability to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions is required.

Working Conditions:

The primary work environment is the garage facility. Individual must be constantly aware of the hazards associated with the garage environment. Specifics of the garage environment include vehicles being moved in confined areas, pits, grease spill, fumes, high noise levels, toxic chemicals, and repair equipment being used. Individual will be exposed to toxic and non-toxic cleaning and wax stripping fluids, fuels, glues, lubricants, floor cleaning machine, large stationary bus washer, steam cleaning machines, and other normal garage equipment and tools.

Physical stamina is significant:

position requires sustained bending and reaching positions at uncomfortable angles. Incumbent must endure brief periods of lifting or carrying heavy objects, sometimes up at least one flight of stairs.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
