Internal Posting•This Is An Internal Posting Open Only For Current North Carolina Department Of Health And Human Services Employees, And Eligible RIF Candidates From North Carolina State Government Including Current Temporary Employees. This position performs journey level work in the Electronics Trade including planning, scheduling, and installation of complex electronics and electrical based control systems such as building fire alarm/life safety systems, internet and phone communication systems, video surveillance systems, electronic and pneumatic security control systems, inspections, and repairs of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, and building automation systems. Position performs hands-on work and side by side training and mentoring of other assigned personnel. This position is expected to fulfill On-Call and emergency call-back assignments and is considered a mandatory position that must report to work during periods of adverse weather. Normal working hours are Monday•Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is part of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Property and Construction, Facility Maintenance team responsible for maintaining the North Carolina State Laboratory and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (SL/OCME) facility located on District Drive in Raleigh, NC. The SL/OCME facility is 261,000 SF state-of-the-art facility with highly technical and complex building systems. This position will require strong technical experience, knowledge, and skills and the ability to function as a technical expert including evaluating and making final decisions regarding maintaining highly complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, fire suppression, and security building systems.

The Division of Property and Construction:

The Division of Property and Construction supports the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services by managing its statewide facilities portfolio, which includes 18 state-operated campuses totaling over 7.7 million square feet and 148 leased properties covering approximately 1.2 million square feet. The division provides maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds services for the Dorothea Dix Campus and basic maintenance and grounds support for the Governor Morehead School. It also oversees the Department’s Capital Improvement Program, managing repair and renovation efforts as well as new capital projects from planning through close-out.

These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed, are required in order to be deemed “eligible” for the position therefore you must provide supporting information, within the body of your application, to demonstrate your possession of each KSA listed. Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience diagnosing and repairing low-voltage electronic systems, including fire alarms and security controls.
Experience installing and maintaining electronic and electrical control systems in commercial buildings. Experience using multimeters, signal testers, and diagnostic tools to evaluate system performance. Experience reading and interpreting electrical codes, construction plans, and technical schematics. Experience working in confined spaces and at height using ladders or lifts.

Management Preferences:

Management prefers two years of working experience in commercial setting with fire alarms and telecommunications equipment installation and repair. Graduation from high school and supplemented by completion of a two-year technical school course in electronics or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
