$25-30/hour. The Fiber Optics Splicing Foreman will oversee the day-to-day work of a crew of Fiber Splicers. Work will involve performing complex splicing operations for telecommunication installations throughout New York State working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. This position will be required to perform the following functions: Effectively lead and mentor crews responsible for splicing fiber and the installation of Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant Fiber Optic/Copper Networks. Perform hands-on installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal). Monitor daily production rates, reporting hours, and supervise subcontractors to ensure the work is being performed efficiently. Always maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Skills and Experience Required:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity A minimum of 3-5 years related splicing experience. Ability to fuse or mechanically splice SM or MM fiber optic cables to include termination of various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC & LC). View and print traces. Able to work aloft up to 50 feet in a bucket truck or ladder. Must be able to climb ladders, utility poles and work in manholes as needed. Experience with computers to update drawing and Fiber Optics Splicing documentation. Experience and knowledge in fiber acceptance testing. Possess a valid Driver’s License and have a clean driving record. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. repeatedly.

Preferred:

Installation and testing of pressurized and non-pressurized closures on all types of sizes and cables experience. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines. DDS is an equal opportunity employer.
