Full Job Description Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Marine Electrical Designer to support the design and documentation of electrical systems for new ship construction projects. This position involves creating and maintaining electrical drawings, layouts, schematics, and cable routing plans under the guidance of engineers and senior designers. The ideal candidate will have experience in marine electrical drafting, proficiency with CAD tools, and the ability to work closely with engineers, production teams, and other designers in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
Requirements:
Develop detailed electrical drawings including power distribution layouts, cable schedules, equipment installation details, and one-line diagrams. Assist in designing lighting, communication, navigation, alarm, and control systems for various ship classes. Support the development of electrical models using AutoCAD, or other design tools. Create and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs), wire lists, and other supporting documentation. Ensure design packages comply with project specifications, classification society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV), and regulatory codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE). Coordinate with engineering, structural, piping, and outfitting disciplines to resolve spatial and integration issues. Support change management by revising drawings and documentation in response to field modifications and design updates. Participate in design reviews, shop support, and as-built documentation during construction and commissioning.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field. 5 years of experience in marine electrical drafting or design, preferably in shipbuilding, or offshore. Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD software. Understanding of electrical design principles including wire routing, power distribution, and grounding. Experience with shipboard electrical systems and maritime design standards required. Knowledge of classification society rules (ABS, DNV) and marine electrical regulations. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office tools including Excel, Word and Outlook.
