We collaborate with clients to offer excellence in engineering services, utilizing experts in chemical, electrical, mechanical, and civil/structural engineering fields to solve critical engineering problems. Role Description This is a full-time role for an Electrical Designer for East Tennessee. The office location could be in Knoxville or Kingsport (whichever is more fitting for the hire). We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and preparing electrical drawings and plans for various projects. This role involves collaborating with engineers, architects, and other team members to ensure that all electrical systems meet the necessary specifications, codes, and safety standards. The Electrical Designer will be responsible for control system and power design, as well as conducting arc flash studies and mitigation.
Responsibilities:
Develop electrical system designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using CAD software, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to develop electrical plans that align with project goals and requirements. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for all electrical designs, including technical specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and other related documents. Ensure all designs adhere to relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including NEC, IEEE, and local codes. Review and verify the accuracy and completeness of electrical drawings and plans, making revisions as necessary to meet project needs. Conduct on-site surveys and/or walkdowns to assess existing electrical systems and gather data to inform design decisions. Maintain open lines of communication with clients, engineers, and contractors to ensure project objectives are met and any issues are promptly addressed. Identify and troubleshoot design issues during the planning and execution phases, proposing effective solutions to ensure project success. Assist in project scheduling, cost estimation, and coordination with other disciplines as needed. Manage project requirements, including extraction of requirements from higher level design criteria, the definition of applicable functional and operational requirements, flow-down to design documents & procurement specifications, and verification matrix activities prior to equipment startup. Coordinate work with suppliers, subcontractors, fabrication, maintenance and/or construction firms. Perform peer-review or formal design verification of design output documents. Promote a professional code of conduct and ethical behavior. Provide technical direction and trouble-shooting skills.
Education and Minimum Qualifications:
2 year Technical Degree Minimum 4 years of experience with design/specification of electrical power systems and equipment. Experience participating in multi-discipline (i.e. mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls, HVAC, piping, welding, etc.) design efforts and producing electrical packages, including electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, etc. Strong understanding of CAD modeling software and drawings, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software. Experience with applicable national standards (i.e., NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), IEEE, NEMA, and other industry codes and standards. Demonstrated ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders. IE Group is a hybrid workforce and collaborative use of communication tools is necessary. Ability to perform work duties to defined project schedules. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge, if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Design experience with custom industrial equipment and process skids on government projects. Experience performing lightning protection design. Experience utilizing ETAP Power Systems Analysis, EasyPower, and/or SKM for power system modeling.
