PLC-Programmer 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars 315 Tubular Drive, Livingston, TN 38570 Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four-year college or university in a relevant field, such as software engineering, computer science or mechanical engineering; one or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Communication abilities are becoming increasingly important as programmers frequently interact with specialists in a wide range of fields outside engineering/maintenance. Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential PLC program needs. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assigned tasks. Draw schematic diagrams to represent components of a proposed system. Create the program itself using coding languages such as Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram. Run extensive tests to ensure a program’s success pre-installation. Install programs into industrial machines. Monitor systems to assess its efficiency and reliability. Identify issues and troubleshoot errors to find a solution. Continuously develop new ways to improve a system. Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment. Oversee project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget. Assist in developing capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs.
