Monday – Friday; 8:00 am until 4:30 pm General Responsibilities Perform professional engineering work in the planning, design andconstruction of the electrical and instrumentation elements ofwater works projects; may also participate in contract negotiationsto provide electric power resources; and perform other relatedduties as assigned. Interface with other project engineers,Operations (Purification), and the Maintenance groups regardingtheir electrical engineering needs. •

A complete anddetailed job description will be provided at the time ofinterviews.•Essential Job Functions Complete engineering assignments requiring the use of judgmentand initiative in developing solutions to problems. Performs electrical and control systems engineering planningfor capital construction and/or maintenance projects on watertreatment systems, pumping stations, storage facilities and otherwater works facilities and equipment. Plan for future system needs, develop and implement maintenanceand construction design projects, from inception tocompletion. Create newly approved bid projects in SAP for projectmanagement and tracking. Oversee the project team for the life cycle of the project.
This includes, setup of security clearances, contractor scheduleapproval, inspection of work performed and closeout of theproject. Research and identify project design requirements; performscomplex calculations and prepares estimates of time and materialcosts Serve as discipline project engineer for projects designedin-house and by engineering consultants. Oversee the design and installation of instrumentation andprocess control elements. Prepare plans and specifications for the construction andinstallation of electrical and control systems to ensure thatinstallation and operations conform to standards. Collaborate with other engineers and departments regardingpotential engineering projects. Essential Job Functions Con’t Monitor work in progress, including field investigations, toensure compliance with approved plans, specifications andstandards; compiles and maintains records of approvedprojects. Perform final acceptance test which includes working withoperators and updating of the O&M manual. Research, develop and recommends standards, specifications andprocedures for the construction, operation and maintenance ofelectrical and control systems equipment. Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potentialelectrical engineering studies or projects. Perform economic and technical analysis related to energy andcapacity purchases. Participates in negotiating and drafting powerdelivery contracts. Perform detailed calculations to compute and establishconstruction or installation standards or specifications. Prepare specifications for purchases of materials andequipment. Supervise or train project team members as necessary. Inspect completed installations and observe operations toensure conformance to design and equipment specifications andcompliance with operational, safety, or environmentalstandards. Plan or implement research methodology or procedures to applyprinciples of electrical theory to engineering projects. Experience Ten (10) years of experience in systems and design such asIndustrial Power System Components Control, Design Systems forWater Treatment Plants, Instrumentation and Control Elements,Development of contract specifications and drawings. Control PanelDesign, Calibration of Instrumentation and Control Elements; two(2) years in a supervisory and/or project team lead capacity. In-depth knowledge of NEC, Electrical Safety in the workplace, ArcFlash Analysis and studies, Pump Station Analysis and Design, HVACControls, PLC Programming, IBC, IEBC, NFPA, Local City and CountyCodes. Experience in the analysis, simulation, monitoring, control,optimization, and automation of electrical power systems usinganalytical electrical engineering software such as ETAP or SKM.Excellent analytical, organizational, computer and interpersonalskills. Experience in quality programs and applications such as Six Sigma,Lean systems, Quality Assurance, and QC inspection. Expertknowledge and experience managing multi-million-dollar waterutility or related Capital Improvement and O&M Cost Programs.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).Strong analytical, project management and communication skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Driver’s License required Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) License required Professional Engineer License in the State of Alabama required,or the ability to obtain such by reciprocity in the State ofAlabama within six months.
