Description/Duties:
Theposition involves assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and somedesign of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) laboratories. Those labsinclude the Systems Integration and Test Facility (SITF), SystemsIntegration Laboratory (SIL), and the Software DevelopmentFacilities (SDFs) that provide computing and simulation systems toverify the integrated avionics and software for the Space LaunchSystem (SLS) at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Theposition will require certification in operations includingElectrostatic Discharge, Cabling Operator, and Crimping Operations.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
Avionics subsystemintegration.
Troubleshooting and bug-fixing of simulations andsoftware/hardware integration issues.
Developing software to assistwith troubleshooting, on Linux based operating systems.
MinimumQualifications:
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
Must have a degreein electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a relatedfield.
Candidate must have at least 15 years of relevant experience,but higher education will be considered in lieu of experience.
Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D.with a minimum 9 years of experience; Masters with at least 13years of experience, or a Bachelor’s with at least 15 years ofexperience.
Must possess or be eligible to possess a publictrust.
Experience in electronic hardware assembly and testing isrequired.
Must have the ability to provide clear, concise, accurateand timely communication, both verbally and in writing.
The abilityto interact professionally with co-workers, management, and theclient is required.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintaincertifications for various activities such as Overhead Crane/Hoist,Cabling Operator, Crimping Operator, Program Critical Hardware/Manual Move, Electrostatic Discharge, Scissor Lift, Aerial Platformand Forklift.
Regular attendance and adequate arrangements fordelegating duties during absences is required.
Physical requirementsinclude activities such as lifting computer systems/associatedhardware (up to 40 pounds per person) and climbing a ladder oroperating a vertical lift (up to 15 feet) to work on the avionicslab.
Preferred QualificationsDegree from an ABET accreditedinstitution is preferred.
Experience in troubleshooting flight likebus interfaces such as MIL-STD 1553B, RS422, RS485, Compact PCI,PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), Discretes, Analog-Digital,Digital-Analog, etc. in support of launch vehicle avionics HWILsystems integration and test is preferred.
Experience with cablerouting and cable testing is highly desired.
Experience writing andexecuting test procedures, performing electrical fabrication andassembly based on verbal orwritten input, and performingtroubleshooting of hardware installations is desired.
