The Role:

Working in a team-oriented workplace, Electrical Engineer IV willeffectively apply electronic skills to perform activities concernedwith analysis, design, testing/troubleshooting and manufacturing ofproducts/systems including the application of theseproducts/systems to commercial, industrial and scientific uses. Asrequired by the business, works closely with other engineeringdisciplines in the development and application of products/systemsor services.

Job Responsibilities:
  • An excellent understanding of the Customer’s requirements,expectations, and application environment as it relates toproduct/system performance is required.
  • Execution of Customer requirements/expectations into productvariations/enhancements or a new product idea is expected.
  • Collaboration and teamwork with other functional departmentssuch as Reliability, Value Stream, Manufacturing Engineering, TestEngineering, GPS, Tech Service, Depot Centers, Sourcing, BusinessCenters, Product Management, etc., is required to ensureproduct/system performance objectives are met.
  • Timely resolution of product/system issues that affect MI’sinternal and external Customers, which may involve engineeringresearch, redesign, test & validation, documentation andcommunication is expected.
  • Responsible for all phases of product development including thespecification, design, component selection, implementation,verification and validation of products and services. May providetechnical leadership to a small group of assigned engineers andtechnicians.
  • Principle responsibility/ownership in the development of newelectronic circuits or systems.
  • Proficient in the use of computer-assisted engineering anddesign software/equipment such as ECAD to perform assignments whichinclude schematic capture and circuit simulation.
  • Recommend complex components, architectural systems andequipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Mayalso review vendor capability and make recommendations to supportproduct development.
  • Determine, plan and execute design approaches and parametersthrough the research, assimilation and application of newtechnology, utilizing creative problem-solving skills such as
DOE/FMEA

in order to develop new electrical analysis methods.

  • Remain current with a variety of the field’s concepts,practices, and procedures.
  • Principle responsibility/ownership towards the continuousimprovement efforts within the R D community.
  • Perform, guide or lead complex electrical design functionsassociated with new product development. Comfortable working withand/or directing the mechanical, chemical, and electromechanicalaspects of project.
  • Collaborate with and direct other engineers/peers in theacquisition, analysis and verification of electrical performance tospecification through simulation and measurement. (E.g. powerfactors, electronic architecture timing, I/O, User Interface,communication ports, etc.).
  • Ensure successful completion of the assigned project/taskwithin the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Participate in key account relationships involving requirementsdefinitions, special applications/designs, and validation throughfield testing.
  • Work closely with local business/technical centers, sales andservice representatives in order to generate revenue generationopportunities.
  • Identify new and/or works with existing suppliers andsubcontractors on specifications, designs, schedules, etc. in thesupport of projects and production equipment. Coordinate keyaccount relationships involving requirements definitions, specialapplications/designs, and validation through field testing.
  • Coordinate, lead and/or participate in design review meetingsand associated activities.
  • Actively participates in the annual business planning sessionsrelated to Electrical R D.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in accordance with requirementsof research/ design/development process.
  • Travel and/or interfacing with Customers, Business Centers isexpected and encouraged.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in arelated field or a Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years ofexperience.
  • On-going, advanced coursework in Electrical/ElectronicEngineering required.
  • 10+ years of experience developing PCBAs.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and enter schematics (Altium aplus) and a superior knowledge and experience of digital, embeddedCPU and analog circuits.
  • FPGA and/or C programming skills a plus.
  • The candidate should be able to develop their assignments willminimal direction as well as functional as part of across-functional and international product development team.
  • Mentoring and leadership of less experienced personnel in anagile environment.
  • Expertise in more than one of the following is required: systemdesign, analog and digital circuit design, solid state powerelectronics and power conversion, microprocessor and digital signalprocessor, software, local area networks, wireless communications,data logging, and electromechanical devices.
  • Complex analog and digital design capability that includesexpertise with low
  • and high-density integrated circuits,microprocessors/microcontrollers, motor controllers, displaydrivers, communication drivers, input/output devices, power supplycircuits/conditioning, wiring diagrams and cable management.

Experience with architectural design/manufacturing that includesVHDL, FPGA, CPLD, BGA and SMT.

  • Expertise with PCB design, testing, analysis and validationrequired.
  • Expertise with EMI/EMC design, testing techniques and Agencycertification practices required.
  • Programming knowledge of C++ is preferred.
  • Proven track record of success for designing, implementing andmanufacturing reliable product designs.
  • Expert use of test equipment/apparatus, computer-assistedengineering and design software, circuit board processes, etc.
  • Expertise with the use of ECAD for schematic capture andcircuit simulation, oscilloscopes, DMM’s, logic/spectrum analyzers,signal generators and data logging equipment.
  • Expertise utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology isrequired.
  • Proficient knowledge of common software programs, includingWord and Excel.
  • Strong leadership, Customer, interpersonal communication andmentoring skills a must.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in
