Controls Engineer 4 Job Description The primary role of a Controls Engineer is to design, develop, install, and maintain equipment that monitors and controls engineering systems and processes. This position involves working on electrical design schedules, testing, evaluating, modifying, and calibrating products and instruments, and ensuring compliance with safety objectives and legal requirements. Responsibilities Assist in creating and following electrical design schedules from specification concept to system completion, while adhering to project timelines. Test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate products and instruments. Analyze plant processes to design and implement improvements. Troubleshoot issues with hardware and processes. Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design, including electrical requirements and motor controls. Ensure compliance with safety objectives and legal requirements for all work completed. Essential Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills. Problem-solving skills and customer service orientation. Interpersonal skills with expert ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback. Technical proficiency in software applications. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering. 8-10 years of experience in engineering, PLC programming, power systems, generator paralleling, and switchgear. Experience with troubleshooting and writing code from scratch for PLCs. Creating production drawings and working with UL standards 508a, 1558, 891, and medium voltage. Familiarity with programming languages via IEC, ladder logic, function block diagram, structured text, and control systems. Work Environment This role is based onsite in Alpharetta, with a 60/40 split between office and floor work involving shop testing. The work environment is air-conditioned, and a laptop will be provided. Personal protective equipment, including steel-toed footwear and eyewear, is required. The team consists of 12-15 engineers, with a total of 18 engineers and 3 engineering team leads. Work hours are Monday to Friday.
