Controls Engineer Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer with hands-on experience in writing programs and installing manufacturing equipment. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development and design of battery cell manufacturing equipment. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a demanding and fast-paced environment, designing and developing high-speed, ultra-high scale automated manufacturing equipment. Responsibilities Take equipment from a rough concept to full production. Manage equipment suppliers or internal design teams through development and deployment milestones such as PO release, FAT, SAT, SOP, and Ramp. Develop station requirements including work content, automated versus manual processes, buffering strategy, and redundancy requirements. Work with industrial engineering to develop material flow strategy within the factory. Identify utilities needed and utility distribution strategy, including PDPs, compressed air, and process water. Complete process failure mode and analysis (PFMEA). Develop equipment timing charts. Oversee equipment installation and coordinate with the building and utilities team. Develop and execute equipment validation plans. Create detailed Manufacturing Instructions to document new processes. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree or higher in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent. Minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on expertise in a manufacturing environment. Experience with large manufacturing lines implementation. Understanding of manufacturing equipment safety systems including Safety PLCs, safety category requirements, robot safety, safety guarding, light curtains, and
LOTO. PLC
controls experience with Siemens and/or Beckhoff. Experience with MES and database system architecture and data tracking, including Python and/or MYSQL. Proficiency in electrical design software and tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar. Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and implement effective solutions. Strong understanding of motor controls and automation systems. Experience with PLC programming, SCADA integration, and industrial networking. Familiarity with electrical safety standards and compliance requirements (NEC, IEC, UL). Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experienced manufacturing professionals with a minimum of 5+ years in electrical engineering, preferably in battery manufacturing, automotive, or high-volume production environments.
