Description of Work The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, Division of Community Corrections, and Reentry Programs and Services. We have a mission that matters! The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative DECM IT & Electronics Specialist (Engineering Specialist II), to be a part of the DECM-Engineering Electronics Controls Team. This position has a duty station at the DECM Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh, NC and will be tasked with serving as the liaison to DIT to ensure DECM’s hardware, software, and IT needs are maintained and assist the Engineering Electronics Controls Team with updating surveillance systems, EIS, and door control systems. A successful candidate for this DECM IT & Electronics Specialist (Engineering Specialist II) position will provide technical assistance and installation of computer equipment and software; provide technical support to all DECM office and field locations with equipment, software, and account troubleshooting; be responsible for analyzing, documenting, and evaluating current and new engineering software for functionality and capability with current systems; and make recommendations to DECM Leadership for purchasing of new equipment and applicable software’s. This position will also provide the Engineering Electronics Controls Team with setup of computers and servers that support surveillance camera, door controls, and electronic intrusion systems and maintaining computer and server software updates. This position requires the daily commute to DECM’s Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Demonstrated experience with the installation and troubleshooting of IT and electronics equipment and software’s, to include but not limited to, laptops, desktops, plotters, printers, copiers, tablets, monitors, and software like Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, BlueBEAM, Adobe, etc.

Management Preferences:
Demonstrated experience with IP-based surveillance systems, programming IP cameras, and connecting to storage systems. Demonstrated experience with the principles, practices, and theories of electronic intrusion fence systems (EIS), door control systems, and non-lethal stun fencing systems.
Demonstrated experience with ethernet networking principles, computers, and servers.
Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD or other graphical computer automated design software.
Demonstrated experience with Programmable Logistic Control (PLC).
Demonstrated experience with design and programming Omron PLC systems. Demonstrated experience with ExacqVision NVRs.
Demonstrated experience with Senstar Electronic Intrusion Systems (EIS). It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry. The Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) serves as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement, new construction, renovation, and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO). DECM also acts as the DAC representative on matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, as well as construction and maintenance services. This ensures that all statewide Institutions and Facilities comply with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates while promoting the agency’s rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training in the construction and maintenance trades. We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment. The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design, property services, project management, and sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction, renovation, and like-in-kind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agency’s physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office. Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders, we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECM-Construction undertakes construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the department’s infrastructure assets. DECM-Maintenance, which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard, Piedmont Regional Yard, Coastal Regional Yard, and three Satellite Yards, provides essential plumbing, HVAC/R, and electrical preventative, prescriptive, and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally, our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications, electronic intrusion systems (EIS), fencing, cameras, fire alarms, and energy management systems, all focused on maintaining the Department’s infrastructure assets.
