Electrical Engineer Job Description Collaborate with project design teams and customers to provide comprehensive electrical system and equipment design services. This includes medium and low voltage utility service entrance and power distribution, lighting, and motor controls. Develop and draft basis of design reports, and perform essential calculations such as short circuit, load flow, voltage drop, and arc flash. Utilize technical, communication, and leadership skills to effectively present findings and integrated solutions through written reports and oral presentations. Responsibilities Design and implement low voltage systems (480V power design and down). Generate construction documents and technical specifications. Prepare detailed specifications, contract drawings, and contractor bid packages. Perform circuit ampacity and conduit fill calculations. Coordinate designs with equipment vendors including motor control centers and low voltage switchgears. Ensure compliance with standards such as
NEC, NYC
Building Codes, Energy Codes, NFPA Recommended Standards, and ConEdison Installation Standards/Blue Book. Utilize electrical system modeling performance software such as SKM or ETAP. Essential Skills Proficiency in low voltage design (480V power design and down). Experience in construction document generation. Technical specifications and design expertise. Strong communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of electrical engineering software such as AutoCAD and Revit. Familiarity with standards including NEC and NYC Building Codes. Additional Skills & Qualifications BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field (required). Working towards obtaining EIT/PE license. 5+ years of electrical design experience for industrial, municipal, educational, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or manufacturing facilities. Experience designing motor control centers (MCCs) and low voltage switchboards/switchgears. Pharmaceutical or industrial experience, with wastewater expertise being a huge plus. Work Environment The role is primarily office-based with approximately 90% of time dedicated to designing and 10% to site visits, field surveys, and inspections in support of design work. The position offers hybrid flexibility with three days in the office and two days working from home. The schedule is highly adaptable to individual needs, fostering a supportive and dynamic work environment.
