Job DescriptionPrimary Function of Position:
The Managing Staff Electronics Engineer will manage a team to develop and support innovative surgical devices and accessories for the da Vinci Surgical System, from concept to launch and beyond, with shared responsibility and shared reward. He or she must excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making sound recommendations when faced with the time pressures and incomplete information typical of new product development. The successful candidate must have proven technical depth in relevant areas and have a track record of successful product development efforts. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing and is a partner in your continued career development and success.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Manage a team which represents Electrical Engineering on cross-functional project teams that design and develop and support products for robotic surgeryManage a team of engineers develop schedule and budget estimates for the team’s activities and report status and issues to senior management.
Manage the team’s professional growthWork with cross-functional teams to develop high- and low-level design requirements.
Develop, implement, test and document design solutions according to clinical and market requirementsCreate Design History File documentation as required by the company’s quality system and FDA regulationsProvide rapid development and iterative design support for the testing of new technologyProvide engineering support for resolution of field and manufacturing issuesDevelop, test and evaluate prototypes to aid in the determination of future product release contentServe as lead technical design engineer on cross-functional project teams to develop new world-class surgical devices and accessoriesProvide technical support to other company stakeholders on electronics and robotic surgical technologySupport quality and regulatory processesIndependent and efficient work style, versatility and flexibility
QualificationsSkills, Experience, Education, & Training:
BSEE required, MSEE preferredMinimum 10+ years of experience in designing electronic devices, preferably preferred in the medical field.
Experience with the complete product lifecycle from concept to volume production strongly preferredProven desire to manage a team of engineers and provide the support necessary for them to accomplish their tasks and for their professional developmentProven experience in a fast paced, high transaction environment developing complex embedded and FPGA based systems that integrate digital technologies and analog sensors and circuitryAbility to work effectively in a cross-functional team is criticalExperience with schematic capture packages and layout tools, electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and power supplies. Understanding of analog and digital circuits, embedded systems, high-speed digital transmission lines, and complex PCB material stackups.
A real excitement to learn and get to the bottom of tough technical problemsA passion for creating robust and reliable productsHands-on engineer with proven ability to characterize the behavior of complex electronic systems and troubleshoot problems or improve performanceExperience designing digital circuitry operating in the GHz range, e.g. communications linksUnderstanding of component selection criteria and design for safety, reliability and manufacturabilityExposure to FPGA logic design, tools, and verification process (Verilog and ModelSim preferred)Design for EMC compliance and troubleshooting/testingComfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to ManufacturingUnderstanding of the importance of clear and effective documentation in a highly regulated design environmentUnderstanding of the concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysisExperience working with FDA and international requirements for developing medical device products is preferredAbility to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations and to effectively communicate complex technical issues to a non-technical audienceKnowledge of C/C++, Python, and Matlab preferredAbility to travel up to 5% time (intermittent)Additional InformationDue to the nature of our business and the role, please note that Intuitive and/or your customer(s) may require that you show current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including
