JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Tech II, Power System will provide technical assistance to EPB’s GSA 1 and residential customers by serving as the primary technical point of contact for issues related to their electric service. Analyzes customers’ utility usage and energy efficiency and suggests alternative rates when applicable. The Engineering Technician II will coordinate as necessary with various departments within EPB to provide the best possible service and quick resolution of customer issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support EPB’s customers with technical expertise in investigating and resolving electric service issues.
- Support EPB customers by providing information and services for EPB’s incentive-based programs for builders, developers, and customers, including home inspections and energy ratings.
- Use various technical equipment to investigate and resolve customer electric service complaints, including meters, instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
- Coordinate responses to customer questions and concerns, create customer-specific action plans, and develop specific recommendations to improve customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with various departments within EPB and Comprehensive Services to quickly resolve customer issues.
- Seek to promote new and existing products and services in the customers’ best interest.
- Provide customer information to anticipate and identify customer billing, rates and pricing, power quality, or other operational needs.
- Respond to customer requests and issues efficiently and with a sense of urgency.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- An Associate degree in a technical field with five years of utility or related experience and/or training is required or otherwise approved by management. HERS Certification is required.
- Mechanical aptitude, decision-making, oral and written communication skills to facilitate excellent customer service, flexibility, and team-working skills are required.
- Proficient use of business software including Microsoft Office 2002 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), EPB software, and computer-assisted design (CAD) software
- Working knowledge of various meters, instruments, and electrical testing equipment, along with energy efficiency testing equipment certifications. If not certified, must pass certification testing within six months of accepting the job.
- Understanding or the ability to quickly learn EPB business activities, including billing, rates, contracts, etc.

- A valid driver’s license and demonstrate the safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.
Must operate motor vehicles during normal working hours to perform various assigned tasks.
