The headings in this Job Description are for convenience only. Purpose Responsible for the design of piping systems and piping layouts. Provide technical direction/assistance to the assigned group and be accountable for managing the assigned staff, man-hour budget, and project schedule. Functions Provide system integration and design technical support for the Piping Detail Design of the assigned project design.
Assist Mechanical Engineering Manager in resolving issues regarding day-to-day operations.
Assist the Mechanical Engineering Manager in meeting the production schedule and maintaining resources and training needs within the Engineering Department.
Evaluate and analyze data regarding integrated Piping systems and recommend improvements to arrangement and integration, especially regarding signal and cable restrictions.
Perform detailed calculations to facilitate manufacturing, construction, and installation and to secure approvals by classification societies and government clients using standards, rules/regulations, and specifications.
Review Mechanical and Piping documents, diagrams, and analyses; making changes/corrections as needed.
Supervise the design, development, and revision of detailed drawings and 3D modeling products development and guidance to production.
Provide technical direction, serve as a point of contact or liaison, prepare briefings for senior management, and assist in problem resolution specific to the project.
Provide detailed plans of action and deficiency reports to support the project objectives and schedules.
Prepare construction planning support activities.
Oversee the integration of the Piping design in Production and work closely with the Company’s Project Managers and Superintendents.
Interact knowledgeably with vendors and sub-contractors to perform and/or support systems integration.
Conduct onboard surveys and ship checks and monitor Piping configuration in the Production Facility (PF).
Maintain OPC Piping development in accordance with contract specifications, ABS, NVR and ESG design specifications.
Perform other duties as instructed.
Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise 2D or 3D Designers and other employees assigned to the Piping group. Engineering Dept. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Piping Designers.

Reporting Relationship This position will report to the Engineering Group Manager Qualifications Bachelor’s or Associate degree in an engineering-related field and 5 years of piping design supervisory experience. Related experience should include a strong and proven knowledge of FORAN, Ship constructor or other 3D Design Software, Auto
CAD, MSC
Nastran, and Rhino. Integrity, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, diligence, and multi-tasking. Required Deep understanding of shipboard piping systems.
Ability to determine the arrangement of piping systems
Ability to determine the appropriate size and type of pipe systems onboard a ship.
Intermediate to Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional documents, classification society rules, coast guard regulations, and other standards, contract requirements, and specifications.
Must have accurate written and verbal communication skills to conduct and understand assignments, and/or convey or exchange routine information.
Rapidly obtain, sort, filter, and analyze large volumes of data.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a team player.
Maintain the confidentiality of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
