COMMISSIONING AGENT POSITION A
well-established consulting engineering firm based in the Tampa Bay, Florida area is seeking an experienced Commissioning Agent to join our growing team. This role involves working closely with owners, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors to ensure building systems are designed, installed, and function according to the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), plans, specifications, as well as information gathered from users, project partners, and field surveys. Projects span both private and public sectors. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, organized, and an effective communicator with a strong background in the AEC industry. Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and commissioning procedures is essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead commissioning activities across all phases of the project (design, construction, and post-construction)
- Develop commissioning plans, specifications, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance tests
- Perform site inspections and field functional testing to verify system installations and operations
- Review design documents for commissioning compliance and provide feedback to project teams
- Identify, track, and resolve issues impacting system performance
- Author commissioning reports that document procedures, findings, and recommendations
- Coordinate and lead commissioning meetings with clients, contractors, and project teams
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive successful project outcomes
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the AEC industry, including commissioning or construction phase services
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; PE, CxA, or BCxP certifications preferred (Licensed General Contractors with relevant commissioning experience will be considered)
- In-depth understanding of MEP and Fire Protection systems
- Demonstrated experience in building system commissioning (mechanical and electrical)
- Familiarity with building codes, energy standards, and commissioning best practices
- Proficient in construction and project management platforms (e.g., Procore, Primavera)
- Strong client communication and report writing skills
