Job Description Lead and coordinate design efforts across all project phases from conceptual development through final design and construction support. Manage external design teams, creating a collaborative environment but at the same time setting clear goals. Oversee and manage design deliverables, ensuring alignment with construction means, methods, and schedules. Initiate value engineering processes wherever possible and analyze projects with the intent to improve budget and schedule. Direct and supervise internal design staff and external design consultants, review design submittals, drawings, calculations, and reports for accuracy and compliance. Interface with construction, estimating, and procurement teams to ensure alignment of design with project execution strategy. Facilitate coordination with federal, state, and local agencies, utility providers, permitting entities, and other stakeholders. Manage project-specific design schedules and budgets; prepare monthly progress reports and forecast future needs. Ensure designs meet contractual obligations, permitting requirements, regulatory standards, and project goals. Lead risk identification and mitigation efforts as they relate to design and constructability. Participate in and lead meetings with clients, partners, consultants, subcontractors, and authorities having jurisdiction. Serve as a technical resource, providing engineering input throughout the design and construction lifecycle. Facilitate and lead alternative technical concepts (ATCs) development. Maintain documentation and project files consistent with quality and compliance requirements. Foster a collaborative team environment, promoting open communication and integration of diverse perspectives. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution. Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil design and/or construction, with at least 3 years in a design-build management role. PE license preferred. Proven experience managing design for large-scale transportation or heavy civil infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of Florida Design Manual, FDOT Structures Manual, construction drawings, engineering principles, permitting processes, and industry best practices. Proficient in design coordination tools and scheduling software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6). Familiarity with CAD, Bluebeam, and other industry-standard software. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including engineers, estimators, construction professionals, and external stakeholders. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative mindset with the ability to lead teams, influence decision-making, and solve problems effectively. Good working relationships with Florida-based designers, FDOT offices, demonstrated through previous projects or collaborations. Experience with local municipalities and counties is a plus Field experience and knowledge of construction sequencing and logistics preferred.
