North America Job Description:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the engineering function within the organization, leading technical teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and innovative products or services. This role involves setting the technical vision, managing the engineering team, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Director of Engineering collaborates closely with product management, operations, and other business units to ensure successful execution of the company’s technical strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Strategy & Leadership:

Define and execute the engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and product roadmaps. Lead the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance software, systems, or products that meet business requirements. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating them into the engineering strategy to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.

Team Leadership & Development:

Manage and mentor a diverse team of engineers, including software engineers, developers, and technical leads, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability. Set performance goals and KPIs for the engineering team, driving continuous improvement and ensuring high-quality technical delivery. Invest in team development by providing ongoing training, growth opportunities, and mentorship, ensuring that the team stays up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies. Product & Cross-Functional Teams:

Partner with product management and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with product roadmaps and business priorities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, sales, and customer success, to ensure smooth product launches and ongoing support. Act as the primary technical liaison between engineering, leadership, and other business units, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives.

Engineering Process Optimization:

Develop, implement, and optimize engineering processes, methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum), and best practices to enhance team productivity and product quality. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline development cycles, reduce technical debt, and improve overall system performance. Establish and maintain robust testing, quality assurance, and deployment processes to ensure reliable and scalable delivery of engineering solutions.

Scalability, Security & Performance:

Oversee the design and development of systems that are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance, ensuring they meet current and future business needs. Ensure that security best practices are integrated into the development process, mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Continuously monitor and improve the performance of systems, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies:

Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team, encouraging experimentation with new technologies, tools, and methodologies. Identify and evaluate emerging technologies that can enhance product development, improve operational efficiency, or provide competitive advantage. Drive the adoption of cutting-edge tools and practices that improve the speed, scalability, and quality of engineering output.

Budget & Resource Management:

Manage the engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet project timelines and technical requirements. Oversee resource planning and allocation to ensure that the team has the necessary tools, technologies, and support to execute projects effectively. Negotiate contracts with external vendors, consultants, and technology partners, ensuring that they deliver high-quality services and solutions.

Risk Management & Compliance:

Identify and mitigate technical risks across the engineering function, ensuring that potential issues are addressed proactively. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and certifications, particularly in industries that require stringent data privacy, security, and operational standards. Lead the engineering team in managing technical debt, ensuring that systems are maintainable, scalable, and secure over the long term.

Stakeholder Communication & Reporting:

Communicate the progress of engineering initiatives, project statuses, and technical challenges to senior leadership and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates on engineering performance, including key metrics such as development velocity, system uptime, and customer satisfaction. Translate technical concepts into business language to ensure alignment between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. Drive Product Engineering modernization encompassing Agile Mindset development within organization and implementation of CI/CD processes to enable efficiency and quality improvements.
