Responsible forassisting in the general business operations of the company byleading and directing the operations and activities of the missioncritical business unit. The overall goal of the VP is to ensurequality and profitable projects are completed safely, on schedule,and within budget, while promoting and enhancing clientrelationships and the company’s image.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities:

The VP will be primarily involved with performingthe following duties and responsibilities.

  • Participate inestablishing corporate goals, objectives, and operating andstrategic plans and communicate to staff.
  • Establish andcommunicate short and long-term goals and objectives for businessunit, consistent with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Makerecommendations for ways to improve business operations (includingprocesses, procedures and best operating practices), looking forways to improve efficiency and profitability and to increase clientsatisfaction.
  • Consistently provide others with appropriateday-to-day and strategic information so others can make informeddecisions.
Business Development/Sales and Client Relations:
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Alston Construction’sservices and capabilities (and those of competitors) to assist inidentifying applicable potential new clients and projects.
  • Analyze the marketplace for pertinent strategic opportunities andcreate strategies that result in winning profitable new business.
  • Develop and maintain trust and confidence of clients; maintainclose contact with clients to gain feedback and to assist inleading to new and repeat business.
  • Facilitate professional andcompetitive proposals and presentations.
  • Lead and/or participatein client presentations and meetings.
  • Maintain a detailedpipeline of clients and projects in Prophet, including status ofopportunities and analysis/reasons for wins/losses.
  • Shareinformation with other offices regarding business developmentopportunities in other areas or where pursuits of the same clientmay exist.

Operations

  • Take steps to anticipate short and long-termfuture consequences and trends, using knowledge and perspective.
  • Act within Alston Construction’s “Levels of Authority”.
  • Reviewand negotiate contracts and mitigate risks associated with projectand contract terms.
  • Manage, in a cost effective manner, warrantyand post warranty claims.
  • Review ongoing project performance, toinclude estimating, budgeting, staffing, job cost management,attaining/enhancing fee, etc.
  • Resolve conflicts that could impedeAlston Construction’s ability to meet goals and clientexpectationsStaff Management
  • Provide leadership and guidance tostaff; provide oversight to ensure effective and efficientoperation of business unit and compliance with AlstonConstruction’s established policies and procedures.
  • Evaluateperformance of staff and provide them with regular, ongoingfeedback (positive as well as constructive areas for improvement ordevelopment opportunities); complete timely formal performanceevaluations.
  • Mentor staff; encourage their professionaldevelopment and growth.
  • Create and foster collaborative andeffective team relationships.
Safety:
  • Comply with all safetypolicies, report suspected safety concerns, make recommendationsfor enhancements to the safety program, and visibly support anduphold the company’s strong safety culture.
  • Provide oversight toensure employees are conducting all construction activities in asafe, clean and orderly working environment and ensure job sitecompliance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP),including communication to subcontractors, addressing job siteissues and documentation of any IIPP events in adherence with theCompany’s IIPP manual.
Personal:
  • Understand, work within, andvisibly support the accepted ethical standards of the company.
  • Actively participate in the local construction and real estatecommunity to network and build relationships.
  • Stay abreast ofchanges in the industry, best practices, and other industryinformation by appropriate reading, meetings, conferences,networking, etc.
  • Remain current in all company required trainingand certifications.
Education, Experience, andLicensing/Certifications:
  • Degree in Construction Management,Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevantoperations and business development experience with a generalcontractor and a minimum of 5 years of management experience.
  • Proven track record of selling profitable work and of successfullymanaging a business plan.
Physical Requirements:

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and reach. Occasionally lift 10 lbs. Extensive computer use and reading from documents and computer.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision,peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjustfocus. Repetitive use of keyboard and mouse, extensive reading fromdocuments and computer. Willingness and ability to work extended hours and flexibleschedules, including evenings and weekends. Willingness and ability to travel frequently.

Work Environment The majority of the Vice President’s duties andresponsibilities take place in the office; however, office andnon-manual work in the field is also required. Will be exposed to outside weather elements while in thefield. May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, and/or airborne particleswhile in the field. Dress, including proper PPE, is conducive to a buildingconstruction environment.
